Who post Crisis, made up the All-Star Squadron? Here's my list, maybe some of you old timers can make some revisions: Based on ASq #60. The original "class photo" included Superman, Batman & Robin, Aquaman & Wonder Woman. By the time FDR sees it at the end of the issue, they are gone - replaced by the Quality Freedom Fighters. The complete roster shows: Missing but included should be: Added later: Are they any other documented costumesd heroes from WW2 not on the list? IP: Logged |

I don't see the Fawcett characters. Then there are some of the really minor characters, such as Neon, Red Torpedo, Red Bee, etc. Some of them had barely a dozen adventures, and could be considered fatalities of the war, but would have been Squadron members while they lived. IP: Logged |

Good point. Red Bee was established then killed off. Not sure about the other fawcett characters - the Marvel family were moved from the ww2 time frame to the modern era. Deceased/Out of Action IP: Logged |

Starman and Bulletman shared a wartime adventure, though I'm not sure if it was either a JSA or A*S assignment. I would expect that Bulletgirl, Spy Smasher, Minute Man, and Ibis were also active in the DCU Golden Age and would have been Squadron members, too. IP: Logged |

quote: An error, you're correct. But did it have to be. If the Seven Soldiers were a timelost crew anyway, and then transported into the present day, why couldn't GA and Speedy have been active in both eras? In fact, what if it was Speedy's inability to adapt to modern mores that led to his use of drugs? IP: Logged |

The Freedom Fighters were retconned out of there just a short time later, weren't they? I guess now they are back in? IP: Logged |

Have Judomaster and Tiger been mentioned? Maybe Genius Jones, The Answer Man, would have joined - or Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys! Other DC Golden Age "Heroes" not mentioned in All-Star Squadron - Herman the Heroic (from SUPES #20, he had a cool, reverse coloured Superman outfit!)- but I guess you'd need Superman to inspire him in the first place! Fatman (Americommando's sidekick) and the ever lovin' Red Tornado. There was a Robin Hood in a 1943 Superman too, who went crooked, though, but redeemed himself again by dying to save Lois. Could still work with say, Starman and Doris Lee. Then there's the Quality crew: And whither the Fawcett crew: Minute Man, Commando Yank, Mr. Scarlet and Pinky, Diamond Jack, El Carim, The Devil's Dagger, Master Man and that ilk? I suppose the Seven Shadows (one panel stiffs from JSA) could be included too. And General Glory. Etc. Also, about Green Arrow and Speedy. IMO, removing them from continuity was one of the stupidest things (until Hawkman/Hawkworld/"Ooh, they're Thanagarian spies" whatever), because their origins were so divergent from the Earth-One equivalents, all you would need to have done was change their names (to, I dunno, Robin Nottingham and Will A. Dale. Just kidding!) and they would have fit in the new universe perfectly in a way that Supes or Bats wouldn't have. I guess the same could be said for E-2 Aquaman, with his different origin. Ollie Queen and Roy Harper would then be just like Barry Allen or Ray Palmer, taking the name of a GA hero. The Arrow of 1941 doesn't have too much in common with the Arrow of 1959, really. (And don't forget, in the early Post-Crisis years, they wrote the red gloves-no beard outfit for Ollie out of continuity, so it wouldn't even have been the same costume) That's what I always thought. They knackered the Seven Soldiers for nothing, IMO. Ah well. IP: Logged |

IIRC, Bozo the Iron Man is a robot. IP: Logged |

Whether all the Quality heroes or any of the Fawcett heroes are part of DCU in WW2, I can't say. I suspect the Fawcett ones are not and are either consigned to oblivion or await a modern revival like the Marvel Family. IP: Logged |

The Fawcett heroes did appear (well the big names) in Power of Shazam! and Starman. They decided in the mid-90s that Ollie did wear the red gloves outfit early on again, after all, but it seemed like they were embarassed by it in the late 80s and early 90s (ie Secret Origins #50). Bozo the Iron Man was indeed a robot created by Dr. Hugh Hazard. Sometimes Hazard would operate Bozo by remote control, and sometimes would wear Bozo like a suit of armour, IIRC. He first appeared in SMASH COMICS #1 (Aug, 1939), I think. Sad to say, I am doing this off the top of my head. I know, I know.... IP: Logged |

The group photo in All-Star Squadron 60 just showed the team as it gathered in early 1942. Roy Thomas was allowing about a year of comic book issues to advance one month of history--so the entire run of All-Star Sq. only covered the team from Dec. 1941 to about April or May 1942. The Rod Reilly Firebrand wasn't pictured because he was still in the hospital after being badly injured at Pearl Harbor. Captain Triumph wasn't pictured (although he was on the cover of A-S Squad #1) because he was not active until 1943. Miss America, as revealed later in the Young All-Stars, was still in a coma--but would later recover and join the JSA (and obviously the All-Star Squadron, since every active costumed hero was in the squadron). Red Torpedo, Red Bee, Neon the Unknown, the Invisible Hood, and Magno the Magnetic Man had all been killed in battle by the time of the photo in #60. TNT was killed soon after. I think when All-Star Squadron was being done in the 1980s, DC had temporarily lost the rights to the non-Marvel Family Fawcett heroes--so Bulletman and the rest were never featured in the Squadron. But since then, DC has bought all those characters, and Starman and Power of Shazam made it clear that Bulletman, Bulletgirl, and Minute Man were active with the Squadron--so no doubt all the rest were, too. There could be a lot of membership changes between 1942 and 1945 of course. IP: Logged |

Gary Concorde, "ULTRA_MAN" was a strip set in the future on a parallel world. He probably couldn't meet the Squadron, but then again, STALKER, who is from a parallel different world, fought the JSA recently (as a villain even) so anything is possible despite the Crisis. Reklen IP: Logged |

Gawrsh, reading all these posts makes me believe, (again), that DC cancelled A.S.S. years too soon. They never even got to finish the war and kick Hitler's A.S.S. Actually, IIRC, the book(s) ended sometime in the Summer of 1942, a good 3 years before the war ended. By that reckoning, A.S.S. covered about a month's worth of continuity every year (our time). Therefore, A.S.S. should go on for another 36 years just to get through WWII and disband. Well, how about it, Roy? IP: Logged |

If I remember it correctly, the Starman/Power of Shazam! crossover that established the meeting of Bulletman and Starman stated that the Fawcett heroes of the time and the All-Star Squadron just "didn't cross paths much"... (so, though folks like Spy Smasher, Bulletman and Bulletgirl, Ibis, Minuteman, Mr. Scarlet and Pinky and such WERE around, they didn't have much contact with the All-Stars...) Oh, and I'd love to see Roy at least get a mini to try to take the All-Star Squadron through the rest of World War II... ...and, I think (though not in the photo) that the speedster Quicksilver (The man now known as Max Mercury) was ALSO an All-Star... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hmmm, now who do we petition to get this sequel? BTW, has Roy been doing any comic writing in the past few years? It's a shame how that generation of writers have been put out to pasture latley. I'm sure there's enough of a following, what with the popular new JSA series, that this mini would sell respectable levels. It'll sure sell better than Forever Malestorm. "Forever what?" you all ask? Exactly. IP: Logged |

I cant believe the Quality characters were listed but Madame Fatal was left out. Hmmmm, cant really picture him running around with the All-Stars but he did team up with Wildcat on one occasion according to JSA! IP: Logged |
